Short Bio

Operus' world class performance style is a cross breed of a metal band, a travelling theatre troupe that come together to produce a unique sound and thrilling live show.

Formed by six professional musicians, Operus' depth comes from the vast musical experience each member brings with them. From extensive studio time, to worldwide performances in metal bands,  Symphonic/chamber orchestras and the stages of musical theatre.

The combined musical knowledge in Operus comes from decades of intense dedication to music with University and Masters Degrees, Royal Conservatory of Music certifications and the first hand knowledge from performing in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Other experiences from the band members include well known bands such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Robin Howe), Annihilator (Oscar Rangel), Skull Fist (J.J. Tartaglia), Eclipse Eternal (Wojtek Sokolowski) and leading roles in professional productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar (David Michael Moote).

Operus has come for all metal heads and music lovers around the globe.

Long Bio

After years of arduously composing a multitude of songs that wander away the instrumentation of a metal band and tread into other musical styles, Oscar Rangel decided to leave behind the limits of musical instrumentation and composition style that he faced. Instead, Oscar delved into expressing his thoughts and emotions in a completely open and limitless concept, ultimately creating this project.

In June of 2009 Rangel moved this project to Toronto and began recording the first rough demo, a production called "Winter Nightmare," under the name "Masquerade at the Opera." Named after the chill beauty and dark wonder of winter that influenced the composition of the majority of the still unpublished songs.

Later in 2011, Masquerade at the Opera transformed into Operus. With this change came a bigger production that took over from the more conceptual idea that was Masquerade at the Opera.

In October 2013, Oscar met bassist Wojciech Sokolowski and together with Cellist Robin Howe, they gave Operus a more structured line up. After this line up change guitarist Rob Holden joined the band to complete Operus' live sound.

November 2015, after almost two years of hard work and dedication Operus releases debut EP “Opus I”,  with vocalist Will Patterson and drummer Alan Madhavan.

In 2016, the lineup is solidified with David Michael Moote (Vocals), Rob Holden (Guitar), Oscar Rangel (Guitar/Backing vocals), Robin Howe (Cello/backing vocals), Wojciech Sokolowski (Bass/Backing vocals) and J.J. Tartaglia (Drums).

Early 2017, Operus recorded and produced their debut full length album "Cenotaph" at Silverwings Studios in Montreal, and in May of that year the band signed a distribution deal with California based Darkstar Records.

Operus released their second production and first full length album entitled “Cenotaph” worldwide on 10/13/17 via Dark Star Records in Association with MVD Entertainment and Sony Music.
